APRRS #2
Round Two of the Appalachian RR Series was last weekend. This is a new event/venue for this season. Here's the rundown:
Go's:
Go: A terrific course with sweeping coal-country vistas and graceful, pastoral farm scenes (sorry, no pics--left camera at home accidentally). But suffice it that this course is a winning combo of cycling beauty, nice roads, and little car traffic.
Go: Fantastic weather. The forecast was rain, which it did during the drive down to the start point, but the rain/clouds passed through by the start time. It became a beautiful, but windy day. So much so that I got sunburned!
No Go's:
No Go: Another lanterne rouge performance. 14/14 for 40+ men. The bright side: I increased my avg non-zero watts from 180 at the last race to 210 for this race. So that was positive, and, best of all, I didn't DNF.
Another no-go is that I irritated both hips with what feels like a tendon inflammation. The bright side: the year-long ordeal with the left leg seems to be over.
Overall summary: This race was great, although I was not. For the points classification, I'm inside the top ten for points, but the dudes above me are there for every race, so I probably am not going to climb the ladder too much. But, hey, there's always the next race: Tour of Tucker County, Memorial Day weekend, which is so epic that survival is the number one thing, not points.
