The Fort Classic was one hot race, not only for the racing action, which was hot, but for the weather. Sweltering, no. Fiendish, yes.
So hot that over 10% of the field DNF'd, and this on a flat-as-a-pancake parcour. (Well, not that flat--there was 2,500 feet of climbing over 40 miles, which is nothing to shake a stick at, but still it was flat by ABRA standards anyway.) The weather was about 93 with high humidity.
For moments like that, Hammer Endurolytes electrolyte replacement caps save the day. I know that they kept me upright in the heat.

Overall my friend Jason Z took the prize, and I finished faster than lanterne rouge. The course is beautiful: 8 miles loop of farmland, cows (bathing in ponds to cool off), even a covered bridge.
At the moment, I am virtual on the podium for the points (fifth place), but I think it is but a mirage in the heat.
